There are many natural stimuli that you can explore to assist you to go into labour. The following are a few that have been very successful for various women that I have met, and some are methods I have personally used.
⢠Having sex with male ejaculation (the sperm is a natural prostaglandin) helps to soften the cervix and prime the birth canal. A female orgasmic experience is equally as important as this gets the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles contracting and stimulated. The more orgasms and ejaculations experienced the better!
⢠Nipple stimulation can be very beneficial. It needs to be continuous and ongoing for five minutes at a time with a five-minute break, over one hour. Any form of sucking, pulling and stimulating through rubbing is required to simulate the release of oxytocin, which can cause the cervix to start softening and thinning out, effacing. This can be tedious and make your nipples/breasts sore if tender, so it is suggested that you use an oil or cream that is suitable to put on your nipples. Apricot oil or pawpaw cream would be ideal (or feed your toddler, if you are still breastfeeding another sibling).
⢠There are homeopathic remedies that can assist a woman to release any pent-up emotions or fears surrounding birth. A woman would need to see a homeopath for the right blend to work through any possible emotional blocks.
⢠Acupuncture can be very successful, however a woman should seek out a qualified acupuncturist with experience of inducing women into natural labour.
⢠There is nothing like a good spicy curry to get a woman going. It works on the premise that when the lining of the stomach wall is stimulated with hot, spicy food and the digestion process is intensified, the nerve endings around the uterus will follow its lead and start contracting.
⢠The same can be said for any spicy food or castor oilâthey work by upsetting the stomach lining, which can trigger the uterus to start contracting. However, it is important to know the true effect of ingesting castor oil is that it works as a laxative and generally gives women a dose of the runs! But hey, that could be considered a small price to pay as often women do go into labour and spend a good part of labour on the loo anyway! Look on the bright side, you are less likely to do a poo during your labour if it is all emptied out first! (A small caution about overdoing castor oil is warranted here. Seek out a midwife to help you take the castor oil. Donât overdo it and once taken allow it time to work. More than two lots within four hours could be considered too much.)
What to do: Take one tablespoon of castor oil, followed by an orange juice to stir things up. This process can be repeated up to three times over a day. It will usually only require one or two tablespoons and youâre off and running, literally! If
